Shortcake: Why are we at home today?

Me: It's a holiday. Today is President's Day. It's also Washington's birthday.

Candy: Where is Washington's house?

Me: In Washington, D.C.

Cookie: Do they celebrate it in Washington D.C.?

Me: Yep.

Cookie: Did they celebrate Lincoln's birthday last Thursday?

Me: Yep.

Cookie: We should dress up like George today.

Candy: We don't have any George clothes. >>sigh<<

Prayer and Plans

Philippians 4:6,19 (New International Version)
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
19 And my God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.

Isaiah 14:24,27 (NIV)
24 The Lord Almighty has sworn,
"Surely, as I have planned, so it will be,
And as I have purposed, so it will stand."
27 For the Lord Almighty has purposed, and who can thwart Him?
His hand is stretched out, and who can turn it back?

I Can't, but God Can

Today's lesson came from Genesis chapter 41. In this chapter, Pharaoh, the ruler of Egypt, had two dreams. No one in his court could interpret them, so he sent for a young Hebrew servant who was known to have interpreted dreams. Through Joseph, God instructed Pharaoh to store up food during years of abundant harvest so that there would be plenty to eat during the coming famine.

God Owns...
Psalm 50:9-11 (New International Version)
9 "I have no need of a bull from your stall
or of goats from your pens,
10 for every animal of the forest is mine,
and the cattle on a thousand hills.
11 I know every bird in the mountains,
and the creatures of the field are mine."

We Manage...
Proverbs 28:19 (NIV)
19 He who works his land will have abundant food,
but the one who chases fantasies will have his fill of poverty.

Proverbs 21:20 (NIV)
20 In the house of the wise are stores of choice food and oil,
but a foolish man devours all he has.

Proverbs 22:7 (NIV)
7 The rich rule over the poor,
and the borrower is servant to the lender.

I Can't, but God Can...
Genesis 41:15-16 (NIV)
15 Pharaoh said to Joseph, "I had a dream, and no one can interpret it. But I have heard it said of you that when you hear a dream you can interpret it."
16 "I cannot do it," Joseph replied to Pharaoh, "but God will give Pharaoh the answer he desires."
